How to Deal with your BOSS? By Mr.Najmi
To deal with a boss first need to identify whether the boss character is Owl, Peacock, Dove, or Hawk.

The character of an Owl being more calculative, need to give more explanation.

Those people with peacock character, even though they are good hearted they are very show off, glamour and always want to be overtop.

“Don’t judge a book by its cover”! That will be best represent the dove character, they are very family oriented, to deal with them please them, ask him about his family.

Hawk! They are the predators’ very precise, multi tasking, staright to the point, time is important for them.

Monday 29th March 2010

Continue with Mr.Najmi’s class in effective communication and presentation skills.

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) by Mr. Faizal Kamal

Conscious and Sub-Conscious Mind”

The motive of NLP is for developing our true potentials, also known as language and behaviour profiler.

The things which I have learned through NLP:

Ø Managing your emotions or the state management of your emotions. There are three basic people, Bad, Deceived and Excellent.

Ø Each and every word that enters our mind will be kept on giving meaning.

Ø Through NLP your phobias also could be overcome. How? There are 3 stages of human life, that is imprinting (0-7 age), modelling (7-14 age) and socializing ( 14- 21).

Ø What is the importance of knowing how to manage your emotions?

1. Emotions affect how we think, act and emotions move actions.

2. Your emotions determines success or failure

If you are angry, sad or depressed there is a rule to change your emotions:

1. Be aware of your state first, whether you are sad or angry...etc.

2. Change your thinking

3. Change your physiology

4. Change your move and mood –laugh!

5. Change your breathing

6. Relax your muscle

7. Change your Vision

8. Pay attention to someone else.

Creative Writing for Biotech Professionals

by the famous writer “Liew Suet Fun”.

Want to be a Writer!

Those two days was wonderful with Ms.Fun, she develops my skill of writing by thinking more creatively.” Termites as Terminators” interesting, this was the introduction given by Ms.Fun.

Day 1: Science and Poetry & Day 2: Drama of Science in Words

The relationship between scientific and creativity:

Ø Writing Science attributes are analytical, deliberate, objective, conclusive, clear and concise.

Ø Poetry is a form of literary art in which language is used for its aesthetic and evocative qualities.

Ø Creative writing attributes are sympathetic, emotive, subtle, not literal, subjective and for sure being creative.

Later on Ms.Fun explained about the importance of right brain usage. I have learned that for creative writing we need the application of right brain. “Imagination through Reality”, right brain deals with imagination rules, symbols & images, present & future, philosophy & religion, and believes & appreciates.

Then we get into group work where we had to identify the difference in two different articles based on fiction and non-fiction. The next days we get write our own creative article, and the title of our article is “The Myth and Facts of Antioxidant”.

As I learned, to be creative you must:

· Know your material well

· Decide on flow of thought and approach

· Be deliberate in language and images

“To Master the Negotiation Skills we need to master the fillings and understand people” by Mr. Hisham Abdul Karim.

The Art of Negotiation Skills

Negotiating is important in everybody life, every day we do negotiate it could be through our speech or our body language. Almost we negotiate to everyone in our daily life right to parents, boss, friends and our special ones.

Here the most important techniques which I have learned from Mr.Hisham are mainly in daily professional negotiation which is important in my working life:

1. There are many paths to seal the deal, 2 primary kinds of negotiation are distributive and integrative negotiation. As I learned, distributive negotiation is parties compete over distribution of a fixed sum of value. Example the sale of carpet, where the buyer and seller do not know each other. No relationship all that matters is price. Integrative negotiation is where parties cooperate to achieve maximum benefits. For example the supplier obtains the desired price from the buyer but settles for more flexible credit term for buyer to ease working capital commitment.

2. Know your BATNA (Best Alternative To Negotiated Agreement), where good BATNA you have something to fall back and bad BATNA you have less bargaining power. To improve BATNA find out more by asking questions and imagine that you are in their shoes.

3. Next is ZOPA Zone of Possible Agreement, is the set of agreements that potentially satisfy both parties.

4. How to make a good deal after learning all the skills?

  • Consider what good outcome would be for you and the other side

  • Identify your value creation opportunities

  • Identify your BATNA and Reservation price, and do the same for the other side.

  • Shore up your BATNA

  • Anticipate the authority issue

  • Learn all you can about the other side’s people and culture, their goals and how they have framed the issue

  • Prepare for flexibility in the process don’t lock yourself into a rigid sequence

  • Gather external standards and criteria relevant to fairness

  • Alter your process in your favour

After lunch, we were given task in group to present. There were 3 situation employee vs employer, landlord vs tenant and son vs parents. Our group were given task as the tenant.

Today we had Ms. Noraini, an ex-MAS air stewardess a middle aged lady being well dressed, polite and professional. She taught as on grooming and dinning etiquette which is very important to make ourselves presentable to others especially during our work life to be well presented to our future employers and boss.

We were taught how to behave in a formal VIP parties as well as in a cocktail party. Most of us had a chance to participate in the role-play session of involving in a formal dining. I have learnt many dining disciplines, where not only handling with foods but also to welcome people in a formal way. Here ladies will get their first priority to be honoured, where the guys need to stand up each time a lady stood up. Apart from that we were taught how to drink soup, to hold the wine glass and to spread butter on the bread.

Self-Grooming”- The Art of Appreciating Oneself.

Mr.Farizal comes much later after lunch, where he taught on:

· Healthy looking and Keeping Fit - healthy feel fitness, dietary, emotion control.

· Dress Outfit for men and for women we had Ms.Noraini

· Head to Toe Perfection

· Aroma or Aura- effects psychologically, maintain your body odour very well by using sufficient amount of perfume and deodorant.

The most interesting part we learned was “The Magic of Colours”. Mr.Farizal taught us on how to choose the right colour based on our skin tone and the situation to be attended.

Later on male and female were separated in two different groups, where male were with Mr.Farizal and females with Ms.Noraini. We ladies had a great time, we were taught how to make up, dress up and proper walking style during work.

Wednesday 17th March 2010

Well, performance, body language, glamour and perfection.

The day was surprised by Ms. Fatimah Abu Bakar, great women with a wonderful personality. The well known actress taught us on the presentation skills. The purpose of presenting is to getting message across to the audience in a more effective way.

What I have learnt:

· Body language as non-verbal communication was 55% effective, words we used only 7% effective and 38% goes to our voice tone.

· Facial Expression

· Eye Contact

· Voice Tone- specialize in voice and piecing tone

· Emotion which linked to body language and gestures

· Posture and Body Orientation

· Paralinguistic –Tone, Pitch, Rhythm, and Inflection in Voice

All this aspects need to be taken in account to present well and to make sure that the message we are delivering reaches the audience.

Tuesday 16th March 2010

This day was no different from the day before, mock interview sessions resumed for the remaining candidates. Those that initially were not involved had a shot at being interviewed by Mr Farizal and Mr Najmi provided time was on their side. I joined the interview section, even though I already had completed my group debate presentation on last Friday. It was a wonderful experience attending an interview section which was interviewed by Mr.Farizal and Mr.Najmi.

Monday, 15th March 2010

Let’s prepare ourselves to attend interviews.

The week was started with the interview techniques by the well known Mr.Farizal. “Show them all you get”, dear viewers if you going to attend an interview this will be a good points to take in account:

Link your verbal if it’s a larger company, bigger position more skills you should show.

Know your particular position and your competitors

Know the way to approach yourself

Know your stress level and how you will deal with your stress

Detect the employees bully and how to deal with it.

Use Holistic approach, and thorough research on the position and the company to be interviewed.

If the interview is too short, it shows that we don’t get the job.

Character is important while attending an interview, here reputation and first impression plays a major role.

“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are” by John Wooden.

Goals of an interviewee will be to gather information on position and employer, evaluate position, job-setting, co-workers, determine if positions is suitable and to communicate information about you. Types of interview discussed were:

· Screening- via calling, in person/via telephone

· Directed Traditional (one-on-one)

· Behavioural – This depends on competitiveness of the hiring process.

· Panel or Committee, usually 3 to 5 person will be interviewing from various department.

· Lunch or Breakfast Interview, where it’s an informal but expect for formal result.

Then he also gave us some questions which touched on our career objectives and the ways we can achieve them. After lunch, individual interview section was held.

Sunday, 14th March 2010

This was a special day, where the day we learnt to create our own blog by Mr.Khairudin. It was a wonderful experience for me, since this is my first blog. As being quoted, there may be more than 200 million blogs in whole world population. The percentage of familiar to non-familiar will be, 90% of familiarity and 10% of unfamiliarity. The purpose of creating blog could be for various reasons especially for fun, but the professional reason could be for:

· personal journal

· dairy,

· expertise,

· networking for politics - subculture

· business – money
